HISTORY.

BORN DEEP IN THE DRAVANIAN FORELANDS, long before the seventh umbral calamity brings ruin and the neighboring fields of green become plains of snow, makade makwa calls the rolling hills and forests home. it's a dangerous life, caught between nidhogg's horde and ishgard's knights, but one full of light and love regardless. mak spends his young years weaving in and out of the brush, learning to rear chocobos, climbing the tall trees for a glimpse of the stars above the safety of the forest's canopy.SIXTEEN YEARS OF PEACE is all she's given before things begin to change. that summer, tailfeather is razed by the dravanian horde, and mak is gravely burned after picking up a sword to slay a drake. her people attempt to rebuild, but with so much of their life wiped away so quickly, famine and sickness sweep through -- and without the aid of ishgard, many die to either the cold or the illness... including mak's mother. the following year, mak begins to see and hear what others can't, nearly driving him mad. it isn't until a mysterious man with a sword the size of his body takes her away from her home, comforting her only with the knowledge of how he knew her mother, how she suffered just as mak does, and how to wrest back control of herself.THE DARK KNIGHT'S PATH is not an easy one, as she learns early on. the world is cold, and cruel, and unjust. she serves, she slaves, she slays, she saves -- an endless cycle of suffering, one mak never sees themselves rising out off... that is, until she meets a man with dark brown eyes and a smile bright enough to melt the coerthan snow. she runs from her mentor in pursuit of love, and finds herself adventuring with a small band of warriors intent on fending off the garlean empire. she has a daughter. she has a life. she has love.THAT, TOO, IS TAKEN FROM HER. the garlean invasion of carteneau takes both her husband's life and her left arm, bestowing upon her the gaping hole left in his absence instead. loss cuts deep and grief only twists the knife further; after barely a month spent in intensive recovery, she returns home to dravania as a shell of herself. she's hardly fit to be a mother, moving through each day like a ghost... until she's finally despite their given relief to find one another, things are different. hard. the guilt of her husband's death sits between mak and her daughter like a canyon, with no way across.

mak's first husband, galen, is dead. the two had been together for nearly two decades by the time he died. she's still grieving.
her daughter nita, however, is 15 years of age and can certainly be featured in scenes! the same goes for mak's older brother, ozhawi makwa -- nita is often in his care, and both will be referred to often.mak is schizophrenic. this comes up from time to time in writing; she often attributes it to the abyss as a dark knight and refers to it as her 'affliction', for lack of a better word. i won't shy away from this! it's important to both me and her.

CLASSES.

-DARK KNIGHT.- mak was trained in the old ways of the dark knights -- how to fight with nothing but a sword, no tricks or magicks to be found. they cannot manipulate their aether, after all... but, sometimes, the shadows of their body seem to flicker unnaturally.

-GUNBREAKER.- at their lover's insistence, mak has begun studying the art of the gunblade. though she's still a bit of an amateur, her prowess with the unruly weapon grows every day.

-TAILFEATHER.- the settlement where mak was born and raised is a place of blended peoples. exiles of ishgard, refugee coerthan farmers, elezen descendants of avalonia, miqo'te keepers and hyur of distant tonawawtan ancestry have all come to call it home.

↬ tailfeather is a central part of the chocobo trade of eorzea. while their training techniques are secretive, the settlement is known for its dealings with ishgardian ranchers and gold saucer racers.
↬ it is a "blended" settlement, though its earliest population was entirely made up of hyur and miqo'te.

-THE AHKICIAKI.- the ahkiciaki (lit. "bird tail people") are a band of hyur who have long called dravania home. it is they who tailfeather is named for, crediting their history of chocobo trapping, training, and trading to the settlement's initial start.

↬ the ahkiciaki speak ahkiciataweenki (lit. "bird tail language") and a trade sign language called "hand talk". the latter has been used by merchants and traders in ishgard, the sharlayan colony, and tailfeather for centuries, before common eorzean overtook traditional languages. if you would like hand talk to be part of your character's lore when writing with me, let me know! i am all for intertwined lore.

-THE DARK KNIGHTS' ORDER.- while there is no "official" organization, mak was brought under the wing of a dark knight who answers to a small sect of others like them. this group considers themselves to be "keepers", self-titled, of the knights' history, protecting it from the Holy See, and aim to recover the soul crystals of fallen knights before they can be misused or destroyed.

↬ "the keepers of the dark", as they call themselves, have been keeping the dark knights' teachings alive for centuries. it is because of their work preserving history, techniques, and soul crystals.

-HOUSE SERGEAUX.- house sergeaux was once a lower noble house in ishgard. famed for their military prowess and historic feats in the dragonsong war over the centuries. they were guardians of ishgard itself; often they were either dragoons on the frontlines, or paladins holding down the spires from dragon attacks. around 40 years ago, the entire family was slaughtered in their sleep. it remains a mystery to this day.

↬ guillaume sergeaux, the man who taught mak the ways of the dark knight, was of course once part of the family. he becamedisillusioned upon bearing witness to all manner of atrocities the sergeauxs committed in the holy see's name. as the only living member of the family, you may be able to guess why he survived.

what began as an apprehensive alliance somehow grew into an unexpectedly close companionship. he who burst into mak's life like a storm, wyrming his way into her heart before she had even realized.

EVANTHIA STARWATER.

a bounty gone wonderfully wrong, eva's straight forward and overwhelming adoration initially left mak wary and confused... but it was not unwelcome. they have, since, grown into one another, little by little.

FARAH RYU.

two veterans, two women, two mothers. mak has much in common with farah, of whom she has become fast friends with... to both the horror and humiliation of one mugen ryu, farah's one and only son.

the light of mak's life, this 16-year-old girl brings as much joy to their life as she does stress. ever the mama bear, mak has sought to shelter and protect nita from all the worst of the world -- even to her detriment, at times.

as the man who taught mak all they know, guillaume is someone who she owes much to -- and someone she regrets knowing at all. their relationship is a rocky one, but one that is not easily severed.
